Analysising Trailers and Posters

Stardust
∙The title of the movie is shown right at the end just before the production team. This is because the music and video cuts are building up to the title and gives the title a sort of buzz when the music drops. This make the audience remember the title but also makes it seem exciting which will make the audience go to watch it in the cinemas.
∙We are told the actors as it gets across the genre of the film but also entices the audience to see the famous actors in the film. The names are given in between cut scenes showing the actor. Therefore confirming their participants the movie but also as a reminder of the actors face if they don’t recognise the name.
∙We see the action that is going to happen in the movie but only short snippets as to not ruin the film. It gives us a background story of the film and gives the audience an outline of the story.
∙The music in the trailer signifies the magical side to the movie and it gives the tense action feel as well. This is so that wider ranges of audience are intrigued rather than people who would expect to enjoy the magic.
∙ There wasn’t a voice over however the characters had speech which was quite humorous which gave the feel of a comedy which would get more people wanting to go and see the film. The speech by the characters is followed by the actor’s names and all builds up the title of the film.
∙ The speed in the trailer builds up slowly and comes the a halt at the title which shows that this is the most is important bit as the audience will see it for the longest amount of time. This is to create a build up to the title which makes the audience remember the name and gets them excited for the film.
∙ The last frame of the trailer is the producers and other involvement however this is only for a split second and we don’t really get a chance to read it this is as it isn’t seen as important however it still needs to be shown for anyone who was involved, this is so the more important things aren’t forgotten and the buzz isn’t lost as most audience members wouldn’t care.
∙The poster as it looks very mysterious and shows all the characters in separate group instead of all bundled up and it looks like it has a good amount of magic and action in the poster.

Hairspray
∙We see the name of the movie twice in the trailer the first time it is a ran across the screen so we don’t see it all the first time and we can only just make out watch it says but then it says it again near the end to confirm the title and give the buzz.
∙We are told the actors as it gets across the genre of the film but also entices the audience to see the famous actors in the film. The names are given in between cut scenes showing the actor. There are a wide range of actors in the movie so it is hard to tell what kind of movie it is but it is very clear that it is a musical with a light comedy in it.
∙The action in the film is a lot from dance and small comic pieces which gives the audience and good idea what type of film it is but shows that it could be something that other may enjoy as it isn’t ruling out some of the other genres completely.
∙The music gives us as an audience the idea that it is a cheerful film that can be enjoyed by the family. It has lots of music in that lifts up the audiences spirit.
∙The voiceover has the effect of a narrator and gives the audience an idea of what the film is about. It emphasises certain points which are important such as the title and describes the action in each scene otherwise it could be considered confusing in the trailer. I think this voiceover man was chosen as his voice compliments the music in the trailer.
∙ Speed of the music is in sync with what is happen in the clips and it is a musical and it look like a professional show. It also enhances the movement of the actors to make it slick. The speed alternates and it builds up then stops a few times to show there are several storylines within the film but then has a big build up to the title. It also shows that the film will be exciting and jam packed with fun.
∙ The last frame of the trailer is the producers etc, but only for a split second the main thing that is shown at the end is the film name which is read by the voiceover man.
∙ The trailer is more likely to make me see the film as it is upbeat and it shows all the actors and actresses the poster does this but it doesn’t give the musical feel like the trailer.

Atonement
∙At the very end of the film the title is shown so that it is remembered. ∙We are told who is starring in the film by the voice over but also in between shots this is so the audience get to know who is in the film twice is they miss it the first time but also to get across the genre of the film.
∙There is a vast amount of action in the film and it shows it all across the trailer slowly and makes us understand the basic story line of the film. This is so the target audience know what type of movie it is and to interest them.
∙The music tells us that it will be a sad love story that will be sad and have lots of twists and turns.
∙The voice over is only given on the two main actors/actresses at the end a long with the film name. This is so that the last important pieces of information are easily remembered.
∙The speed of the clip is quite slow giving the atmosphere so a sad film. This is to get the mood of the film across to the audience and make the genre obvious. The speed is similar all the way through but stop and starts to show the stages of the story.
∙ The very last frame has the title this is also said by the voice over and to make it seem more exciting in comparison with the slow trailer.
∙ The poster is more likely making me want to see the film as it shows the two characters separated and isn’t as revealing as the trailer. The poster also shows a good contrast which is interesting.

Transformers
∙ It is at the very end so it is easy to remember.
∙ We are told the director of the film in the trailer in between the cut scene and near the end this is probably as there aren’t many well-known actors in the movie so they show a famous director who will be more well-known and it means that people who like his previous movies will probably like his newer ones.
∙We see a lot of explosions and robots in the film this shows the audience that it is a high budget film and therefore more likely to be exciting and a good movie.
∙ The music is tense and it has a sort of bass music that goes with the flashes of images of scene, this gives an exciting action feel to the trailer.
∙ There isn’t a voiceover however the general is speaking and he explains part of the movie. This shows that something is seriously wrong as he is worried and he has a lot of power.
∙The speed of the film starts of slow but then it shows action in the movie and the speed picks up and gives a good build up to the name and the director of the movie.
∙ The last frame of the trailer is the producers etc, but only for a split second the main thing that is shown at the end is the film name which is read by the voiceover man.
∙ The trailer has a lot more action in and shows the storyline well where the poster doesn’t give much away and isn’t very appealing.

The Amazing Spiderman
∙It doesn’t say the name of the movie in text but a policeman says his name and it shows the logo of Spiderman. It doesn’t really need to say the name as it is obvious that it is Spiderman and this is the fourth one which is coming out.
∙It doesn’t tell us who is starring in the movie separately as there aren’t many well-known actors in it. Instead it gives a story line.
∙ We see lots of action in the trailer, guns and Spiderman on his web and all of this put together looks really exciting.
∙ The music is tense and builds up to the logo of the film and the date that it is released.
There isn’t a voiceover man but a police speaking about arresting Spiderman and this gives the bases of the story in the film and shows how the police don’t like Spiderman.
∙The speed of the trailer is building up to the logo of the film and it’s release date as this gets the audience excited about it coming out and makes  them want to go and watch it.
∙ In the very last frame we see some people involved with the film but also some things for the marketing of the film. Eg #amazingspiderman this is so that it go onto social network sites and gets people talking about it and markets it to others.
∙ The trailer is more effective as it shows more action and incises the audience to go and watch the film.

Batman Essay – The Dark Knight Rises

The genre of the Batman movies are Action we see this in the trailer as it has guns, explosions, heroes, fighting etc., which gives the action feel to it. These codes and convections of an action movie that are shown in the trailer are emphasized by the music. It has very low drum sounds which go to a beat and get faster. This makes each movement more dramatic, by increasing the pace of the music and action it increases the tension of the trailer and makes the audience feel on edge and get a buzz when the music comes to a halt and usually shows a valuable piece of information for them to remember. (The title or director) By making the genre easy to identify, it will be noticed by the target audience and therefore draw them in if it is a good trailer.

I think that this trailer is good as it gets across the narrative of the new villain in Gotham. It brings something new to the movie which is also a unique selling point for the Batman films. The Unique selling point in a trailer can be the difference between someone watching a movie or not. Unique selling points can be anything from a director to something in the story to how it was filmed. These points must be good to get the target audience to want to watch the movie.

The target audience for the Dark Knight Rises would be mainly men, form the ages of teenagers and above. This is due to the action in the trailer and the stereotypical guy will like to see things explode. It would also to some girls who like action, but also comic book nerd and action lovers. The target audience could also be people who like the actors or director in the movie, and people who have seen the previous films and enjoyed them. The target audience should be known before making of the trailer but doesn’t necessarily have to be specific to one group.

The music camera angles and pace all work together to build up throughout the trailer. As the trailer goes on the music will get faster and the beats with get louder. This makes the details and movements in the look better and more exciting. The camera angles start at mid long shots and work there way to close ups and mid close ups which is better for noticing details which can show narrative. The special effects are show and get some snippets of it to show most of the action in the trailer.

Credits are shown at the end just before a small comical scene. These are shown right at the end only for a spilt second as they aren’t interesting and don’t have as much significance. Whereas the name will appear for a while and could be highlighted with a voiceover. This is more important and means that the audience remember the name of the movie, it also is near the end as the buildup and anticipation makes it seem better and remembered.
